As the author of the book, I'll be watching the development of this particular cover with great interest.
You said once that the first thumbnail or concept is usually the one that makes it to the finish line. Was that the case here, or were there a slew of discarded concepts?

This one broke the rule. I started out sketching more passive scenes of explorers in an alien landscape with creatures lurking in the shadows. Then I decided to try something with more action. Once I did that I was confident Siembieda would pick the action scene.
